DonnaJoy aka Holistic Prairie Mama
A daughter of a woodworker and an artist, DonnaJoy (better known to her Prairie Peeps as the Holistic Prairie Mama) worked in Manhattan, NY, in the photography industry in her early twenties. Her work as a lead photo stylist often included modeling as well, which led to her gracing the cover of a novel and posing for a piece that was featured in an art gallery. She began her craft business with a focus on extreme primitive folk art, working in various media, such as wood, fabric, and paper, with a passion for historical distressing, and later went on to do graphic design.
Just like her inspirations, Laura Ingalls Wilder and Tasha Tudor, at home she grew vegetables in her garden and loved to toil in the earth like her ancestors, did dishes by hand in her antique replica sink, and dried herbs in her pantry. Her two boys ran barefoot in the dirt as she cooked for them and hubby Prairie Papa Tony on her old-fashioned stove. Although she loved the NY art scene, her heart called her to the country, and she moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where its picturesque scenery reminded her of days gone by.
There, after many years of studying about natural healing, she earned her certification as a holistic health coach, specializing in anxiety and stress reduction through spirituality and lifestyle changes and eating God’s food as medicine. She believes we all can be happy and healthy with the simple life, laughter, fresh country air, and good farm-fresh homemade food.
Loving vintage and old things, DonnaJoy has a passion for dressing in prairie dresses and pinafores and pretty hats. She caught the attention of her favorite fashion designer, April Cornell, who recognized her wonderful passion for the prairie and made her their brand ambassador.
Amid cows and rolling hills, she embraces her prairie life, sipping her herbal tea with her dog Tasha Jane by her side as they look out over the cornfields.
